Best of 2012 (so far) [News & Messenger, Manassas, Va.]

Jan. 23--As January winds down, we checked in with our readers to see how the first month of the new year has gone for them. This is the question we posted on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/insidenova): What's the best thing you've done so far in 2012? Judging from the answers, the new year is off to a pretty good start for a lot of NoVa Insiders. Here's the best of your bests.

Ryan Herring Carroll I got Aetna, a major medical insurance company, to change one of their policies from "experiemental and investigational" (and not covered) to "medically necessary" (and covered). The change took months, lots of letters and research, and a petition with over 1,000 signatures. Because of this policy change, I will be getting my hip fixed after 17 years of pain, and many others will soon follow.

Chris Pannell Ate sushi for the first time and LOVED IT!!

Paul Conklin Quit smoking and haven't looked back.

Cindy Pittman Santa Ana We cut out all processed foods and we are eating only organic, local and sustainable foods.

Laura Sugarman Barrett Helping others in the community to put together a tribute dance and silent auction to raise money for a local family who is overwhelmed with medical bills after the recent loss of their young daughter. The Autumn's Army benefit will be on Feb. 11 from 7:00-11:00 p.m. at the Continental Events Center in Manassas. The cost is $15 per person with all profits going to Autumn's family. Kyle Wright Started the process to get my Visa to teach English in South Korea. Should be there by April at the latest.
