Barbara A. Greenawalt

Barbara A. Greenawalt, 78, of Lancaster, PA, passed away Friday, December 20, 2013 at The Mennonite Home. She was born in Manheim to Martha D. and Henry M. Greenawalt. Barbara graduated from Manheim Central High School and Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. She worked for Educators Mutual Life Insurance Company for 34 years as a Claims Approver. She also worked at various other locations in Lancaster County.

Barbara was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church for 32 years, serving there in various capacities. She served as Vice President and President of her Sunday School class, served on the official board and numerous committees, and was chairman for 21 years of the church's senior projects, Project 60 and Lively 55.

Most of her life she was in music and Barbara studied piano for 8 years and also studied voice in Chicago. She played numerous instruments including ukulele, autoharp and dulcimer and had a collection of foreign instruments which she demonstrated for a number of organizations.

Barbara especially liked harmony and sang in a number of organizations. She sang in the Moody Chorale and went on a concert tour to 8 European Countries. Barbara also sang with the Lancaster Liederkranz Chorus, Hamilton Watch Chorus, AARP

530 Chorus, Lancaster Musical Art Society and the PA Hawaiian Society performing group, "Na Makana O'Hawaii" which means "the gift of Hawaii." She always felt privileged to be a soloist in each of these groups. Barbara also sang for a convention in Hawaii, appeared in numerous radio programs and on TV. Twice she sang for the American-Asian Air Force Troops at Fort Dix and received a commendation from them which she always called "my Oscar."

She is survived by two sisters, Bettie McCauley of Lancaster, and Beverly Spese of Denver, PA, a brother, Barry (Rita) Greenawalt of Lititz, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Barbara's Celebration of Life Funeral Service on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at The Groff's Family Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 528 West Orange Street, Lancaster, PA (corner of Orange and Pine Streets). A visitation and viewing will be held at The Groff's on Friday from 10:00A.M. until time of service. Entombment in Conestoga Memorial Park.
