BABSON PARK, Mass., Aug. 27 -- Babson College issued the following news release:
Babson College (http://www3.babson.edu/) will host the 13.1-mile start of the annual Boston Marathon(R) Jimmy Fund Walk on Sunday, September 12, for the second year.
The Boston Marathon(R) Jimmy Fund Walk (http://www.jimmyfundwalk.org/htmlcontent.asp?cid=98617) allows participants to follow the course of the 26.2 mile Boston Marathon that begins in Hopkinton and ends downtown at Copley Square.
Babson is the halfway point and the start line for those who will walk the 13+ miles to Boston. The event is sponsored by Sun Life Financial (http://www.sunlife.com/).
Volunteering for the Walk gives students the opportunity to honor friends, family, co-workers, and patients facing all forms of cancer. Babson volunteers include entering freshmen and returning students, faculty, administration, and staff.
The Jimmy Fund supports the fight against adult and pediatric cancer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a world-renowned pioneer in discovering and developing innovative, more effective cancer therapies. The Jimmy Fund's supporters enable Dana-Farber's physicians and researchers to do the work necessary to raise the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world. Progress is continually being made thanks to research funding raised by the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk.
The Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk allows participants to follow the Boston Marathon route to honor friends, family, co-workers, and patients facing all forms of cancer. Over the past 22 years, the Walk has contributed more than $66 million to support cancer research and care at Dana-Farber.
Walkers choose from one of four route options designed for everyone from the marathon enthusiast to the youngest walker. There is even a virtual Walker option for those who can't make it to the event.
