BRIEF: N.C. Mutual hires new CFO, treasurer [The Herald-Sun, Durham, N.C.]

May 18--DURHAM -- Locally-based N.C. Mutual Life Insurance Company has hired Michael Lawrence as its chief financial officer and treasurer.

The company made the announcement in Thursday night.

According to the release, Lawrence was previously employed for more than eight years as the CFO and COO at NCM Capital in Durham. His responsibilities included financial reporting, cash management, human resource functions, management of operational and organizational risk, and maintenance of the insurance risk management program. Prior to that, he served for 10 years as senior manager of assurance services for Deloitte & Touche LLP.

Lawrence received his bachelor's degree in accounting from N.C. State University.

N.C. Mutual Life Insurance Company, the nation's oldest and largest insurance company with roots in the African-American community, was founded 113 years ago in Durham.
