BRIEF: Manchester fire department to host fire prevention fair [Carroll Eagle, Westminster, Md.]

Oct. 28--The Manchester Volunteer Fire Department will host a fire prevention, health, and safety fair Nov. 2 focusing on fire prevention information for seniors and disabled citizens.

This is the first annual fair aimed at seniors and disabled citizens after the fire department realized that some of these members of the community may have been "falling through the cracks" in terms of learning fire prevention tips, according to Lucy Staub, a member of the department's fire prevention and safety committee for senior and disabled citizens.

"We [the fire department] are supposed to be there to serve the entire community," Staub said. "We have to target the community that are much older and aren't able to do things as easily and readily as the rest of us."

Representatives from the Red Cross, Access Carroll, insurance companies, pharmacies, health care agencies, and others are scheduled to attend, according to Staub.

Doors open at 9 a.m. in the fire department's activities building at the carnival grounds on York Street and the event is scheduled to end at 2 p.m.
