BRIEF: Aflac duck stars in 54th TV spot, ‘Boat’ [Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, Ga.]

Jan. 24--The 54th commercial featuring the comical Aflac duck has now hit the tube.

The Columbus-based insurer said Monday the half-minute clip, "Boat," began airing over the weekend on some cable television networks and will debut nationally on broadcast networks Feb. 6.

In a nutshell, the new commercial shows the duck taking a boat ride on a pond with a couple of guys who are talking about their insurance and finances. After the boat springs several leaks, the feathered creature plugs the holes with his wings and webbed feet, eventually using his beak to keep it from sinking, thus saving the day.

The core message, Aflac says, is that the health insurer's products can cover any holes in consumers' standard insurance policies.

The TV ad was created by Kaplan Thaler Group, which is part of the advertising firm Publicis and has worked with Aflac more than a decade.
