ApneaRx®, New Transition Oral Appliance to Treat Sleep Apnea, Now Reimbursed Under HCPCS Code E0485

PR Newswire Association LLC

LAGUNA HILLS, Calif., Jan. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A new class of transition oral appliances has recently hit the market that will help qualify and cost effectively "transition" sleep apnea patients to custom oral appliance therapy. Apnea Sciences is leading the way with ApneaRx®, a Best in Class patented design that is more advanced than traditional "transition" oral appliances. It can be fitted and adjusted by trained sleep care providers - not just dentists. It is the only Boil and Bite oral appliance that can be adjusted in 1 mm increments to insure an optimal custom fit, without the use of screws, plastic straps, rubber bands, or other accessories.

ApneaRx®, a prescription device, is now recognized by Medicare to be highly effective and is now being reimbursed under HCPCS Code E0485 – prefabricated oral appliance. To qualify - patients must be diagnosed with mild to moderate sleep apnea, or be CPAP intolerant. Major health insurance companies that also reimburse are: Aetna, Anthem, BCBS, Cigna, United Healthcare and others. Since all insurance plan benefits vary and change over time, the patient's insurance provider should be contacted to confirm its specific coverage policies. Patrick Maley, COO for Apnea Sciences' Clinical Division, said, "The fact that both Medicare and private insurers recognize the value of ApneaRx®and are willing to reimburse for it is very positive news for our business."

Dr. Walcott, A Board Certified Sleep Specialist from San Diego said, "CPAP intolerant patients will welcome this news as many have been waiting to see if an oral appliance is an acceptable alternative to their CPAP machines." The American Academy of Sleep Medicine has long supported oral appliance interventional therapy for mild to moderate sleep apnea. The introduction of ApneaRx®will help these patients determine the right therapy for their care.

ApneaRx®is sold by CareFusion and is available by calling 800-582-7458.

ApneaRx®was developed and is manufactured by Apnea Sciences. Other products are in development to address the large sleep disorder market. For more information contact Patrick Maley at 617-835-3757 or [email protected].
