Alice Ruth Jones [Yakima Herald-Republic (WA)]

Proquest LLC

Valley Hills Funeral Home

Alice Ruth Jones was born August 9, 1933 in Woodland, Washington to Roy and Laura Johnson. She spent her childhood years in Woodland with her family, attended schools there and was valedictorian of her graduating class. She met Clint Jones through dear family friends and they married August 18, 1950. They spent the first few years of their marriage in Longview, Washington where Clint and Alice began the process of adopting their son, Brad in 1956 and daughter, Bonnie in 1959. They moved the family from Bellevue, Washington to Toppenish to begin an insurance business. They worked side by side in the insurance and vehicle licensing business until Clint retired. Alice ran the Dept. of Licensing for over 40 years and was especially proud to be of service to the community and help solve problems.

Alice was a member of the United Methodist Church where she spent many years singing in their choir. She had the voice of an angel. She and her husband were community service minded, involved in designing and building floats, hosting PowWow luncheons, and were advisors to the Jr. Miss Court. She was also Toppenish Woman of the Year. She was a proud member of the Beta Sigma Phi and her life was enriched greatly by her service and sisters in the sorority.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clint; parents, Roy and Laura, sister, Janet; and brothers-in-law, David and Bud.

She is survived by her children, Brad (Aime) Jones and Bonnie (Jon) Iverson; sister, Shirley Caine; brother, David Johnson; grandchildren, Amy, Christopher, Spencer, Quincy, Doni, and Raissa; eight grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family that adored their Auntie Alice. She will be missed greatly by her many friends and family.

Visitation will be held on Monday July 2, 2012 from 2-6 PM at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday July 3, 2012 at the Toppenish United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Zillah Cemetery.
