A trip down Memory Lane to this week …

Local banks say many customers were coming in to pick up the newly re-issued $2 bill. At First Bristol County National in Attleboro, about 500 $2 bills were scoffed up the first morning they were available. At the Federal Reserve in Boston, nearly $13 million in $2 bills were distributed in the first week, raising fears that they would be out of circulation due to hoarding customers. However, a Federal Reserve spokesman said they had "plenty more." The $2 bill was taken out of circulation in 1966 and returned 10 years later. They feature a portrait of Thomas Jefferson on the front but the new bills are changed from the old design, which had a picture of Monticello. The new design is John Trumbull's painting of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. (The $2 bill is still in circulation but few new ones are printed.)

Mark Coogan of Attleboro finished 19th in the Boston Marathon. He and four other Americans got near the two leaders at the nine-mile mark. "It was pretty much fun for 10 miles. … I got dropped (fell off the pack) and once I got dropped it was too hard for me to get back up there. I was trying hard to get back into the group, but I couldn't do it," said Coogan, a Bishop Feehan High School graduate who finished 41st in the marathon at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. North Attleboro's Jessica Blake finished 31st in the women's division with a time of 2:53:23. "I surprised myself," she said.

A study authorized by the state found an increase in traffic and credit card issues following the June 2015 opening of Plainridge Park and Casino but no increase in crime. The study, conducted in Plainville, Wrentham, North Attleboro, Mansfield and Attleboro between July and December 2015, said there had been an increase in erratic driving, collisions and disabled and suspicious vehicles in the five communities due to Plainridge.

Credit card fraud was also up, but the casino was only a "possible" reason, the report's author said, and more study was needed. But crime — a leading issue cited by casino opponents — was unchanged in the area, the study said.
