AUBURN — The union representing healthcare workers at Loretto's facilities, including The Commons on St. Anthony in Auburn, has ratified a new three-year contract that includes pay raises and preserves health insurance coverage.
The contract was announced by Loretto and 1199SEIU, United Healthcare Workers East. According to a news release, both sides reached an agreement after eight bargaining sessions, including a marathon 15-hour meeting that led to a tentative deal.
1199SEIU members ratified the contract in July.
The contract includes 3% annual wage increases and protects affordable health insurance coverage for members. It also protects the training and education fund benefit, increases charge nurse differentials and improves attendance policies.
Benita Thompson, administrative organizer and the lead negotiator for 1199SEIU, said in a statement the agreement shows what can be done when both sides are committed to finding common ground.
"Our members stood together throughout negotiations, and we're proud to have reached an agreement that recognizes their essential contributions while supporting quality care for the residents who depend on them," Thompson said.
Nancy Williams, chief people officer at Loretto, added: "We are pleased with the outcome of this agreement and believe it will help Loretto continue to be well positioned as a desirable employer in the marketplace."
Loretto operates community programs and facilities that include assisted living, nursing homes and short-term rehabilitation centers. The company has 2,400 employees, more than 1,500 of which are covered by the new contract.
