$1 Million Available in Cooperative Agreements for Floodplain Management in FEMA Region Seven

Targeted News Service

WASHINGTON, May 31 -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that it expects to award up to four cooperative agreements for floodplain management in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska

The estimated total program funding available was cited as $1,035,352. The agency said the grant was associated with a) community development, b) disaster prevention and relief, c) education, d) employment, labor and training, e) environment, f) information and statistics, g) natural resources, h) regional development and i) science and technology and other research and development.

The funding is open to state governments.

The agency description of the grant states: "The Community Assistance Program - State Support Services Element (CAP-SSSE) program provides funding to States to provide technical assistance to communities in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and to evaluate community performance in implementing NFIP floodplain management activities. Designation, duties, and responsibilities of State Coordinating Agencies are found in 44 CFR 60.25. These regulations identify the states commitment to the minimum floodplain management criteria and to demonstrate the capability and responsibility to implement the program. In this way, CAP-SSSE helps to ensure that the flood loss reduction goals of the NFIP are met, build state and community floodplain management expertise and capability, and leverage state knowledge and expertise in working with their communities."

The funding opportunity number is DHS-18-MT-023-07-02 (CFDA 97.023). It was posted on May 30 with an application closing date of July 30.
