“Ask an Expert”: Area Businesses Band Together for Program on Options for Older Adults

Home Care Assistance, North America’s premier provider of in-home care for seniors, is partnering with local businesses to offer two free forums on topics concerning older adults. Speakers will discuss how to choose caregivers, moving to a senior living community, VA benefits, estate planning documents, Medicaid, insurance, and options for staying at home. The event, “Ask an Expert: Staying at Home and Other Options for Older Adults,” will take place on Thursday, May 16th, from 9 – 11 a.m. at The Community House in Hinsdale. The same program will be presented on Tuesday evening, May 21st, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at New York Life Insurance Company’s Downers Grove office.

“This event will be a great resource for family caregivers and others who are seeking information about choices for seniors,” said Loryn Kogan, VP of Client Care Services at Home Care Assistance. “We encourage all to come and bring their questions and concerns.”

Margalit Tocher, President of Home Care Assistance in Hinsdale, will discuss when, where and how to choose a caregiver for adults who elect to remain in their homes. Veterans Benefits will be covered by Jerry Schmitt from WealthCare Consultants. Elder Law Attorney Eileen Fitzgerald will discuss estate planning, wills, guardianships, probate, trusts, powers of attorney, and Medicaid/public aid for nursing home residents. New York Life Insurance Company agents Margaret “Peg” Reid and Schneider Leconte will review opportunities to stay at home or with their family members without straining good will or finances.

Kerry Quirin from Senior Living Experts will address how, where, when, and why one might move to a senior facility. According to Quirin, “it’s imperative to educate yourself on aging issues before a crisis catches you off guard.”
