Vukmir Stands With Kochs–and Against WI–on ‘Junk Plans’

Targeted News Service

MADISON, Wisconsin, Aug. 29 -- The Wisconsin Democratic Party issued the following news:

U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin's fight to stop the expansion of "junk health insurance" is yet another reminder that health care policy contrasts between Tammy Baldwin and Republican Leah Vukmir -- who supports junk plans -- are the "starkest of any U.S. Senate contest in 2018."

According to the AARP, the Trump administration's "junk rules" will allow insurance companies to "deny coverage to people with preexisting conditions" and even "impose an age tax, charging older Americans much higher premiums."

2.4 million Wisconsinites have so-called pre-existing conditions, but despite the AARP's warnings, Vukmir has joined corporate special interests like the Koch brothers-funded Americans for Prosperity in pushing for junk insurance plans. According to the Wisconsin State Journal, "Vukmir supports rules recently issued by the Trump administration that aim to chip away at Obamacare by permitting certain types of health plans that don't meet the law's requirements."

With Tammy Baldwin standing up to the special interests to fight for Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions -- and Leah Vukmir taking special interests' side at every turn -- it's no surprise that the Koch brothers and corporate special interests have already spent more than $12 million on TV attack ads to beat Tammy Baldwin and replace her with Leah Vukmir, a Senator who would keep working for them, not Wisconsin.
