The OCM, a 5-year alternative payment model pilot designed by CMS, aims to improve patient care by appropriately aligning financial incentives with care coordination, appropriateness of care, and access to care for beneficiaries receiving chemotherapy. This model is intended to deliver quality care at an affordable cost by combining a two-part payment system, which includes an upfront payment to support infrastructure and opportunities for performance-based payments focused on lowered total costs during an episode of care.
