AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 2 -- The Texas Democratic Party issued the following statement:
* * *
TexasDemocrats support Medicaid expansion because it is the best way to guarantee health care to our nation's most vulnerable people in spite of Republicans' refusal to cover our fellow citizens.
Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa has issued a statement:
"Texas shamefully leads the nation in the number of uninsured Americans because Greg Abbott refuses to expand Medicaid, even while the federal government already pays for over 90 percent of Medicaid expansion costs.
"Under Abbott's leadership, Texas continues to lead the nation in COVID-19 infection and hospitalization rates. This is the time to increase Texas' coverage rate and ensure that every household, no matter their income bracket, has access to healthcare.
"Texas has continuously denied Medicaid expansion even as the cost of having uninsured residents dramatically hurts the state's economy and does not give sick and low-income Americans a chance for a quality of life attune with living in the world's richest nation.
"Greg Abbott has no excuse and no shame if he would rather let Texans die without health care just to continue Republican spite for Democratic policies."
