SFPID has two branches, the SF Claims Branch (SFCB) and the SF Acquired Assets Branch (SFAAB); support is required for both branches.
The SFCB is responsible for the payment of insurance benefits based on claims filed by FHA-Approved Lending Institutions. Other responsibilities include the receipt and disposition of mail and correspondence relating to claims processing, claim forms, and other miscellaneous documents. To ensure that claims submitted by mortgagees for insurance benefits are reviewed and processed in an accurate and timely manner, the SFCB requires support in processing of supplemental claims, delivery of incoming mail, and file maintenance. Claim processing is largely automated and carried out by the SF Claims subsystem (CLAIMS/A43C) of the SF Insurance System (SFIS/A43). The supplemental claim process is manual. After the initial claim payment, FHA-Approved lenders may elect to submit a supplemental claim to account for trailing expenses and/or corrections to the initial claim. Servicers submit the claim and supporting documents on paper. FHA currently has a backlog of 40,000 claims and receives approximately 4,000 supplemental claim applications monthly.
