WASHINGTON, June 18 -- Sen. Christopher Murphy, D-Connecticut, issued the following news release on June 17, 2021:
U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, on Thursday released a statement on the Supreme Court ruling to dismiss challenges to the Affordable Care Act, preserving health care coverage for millions of Americans:
"Today's ruling is a huge victory for the millions of Americans who rely on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for protections and coverage. And it should settle the debate once for all--the ACA is the law of the land, and Republicans need to end their relentless attacks on our health care system," said Murphy.
"Now, we have to move forward and ensure all Americans have access to affordable, high-quality health care. And letting any individual or business buy into Medicare is a popular, effective and fast way to do this. I'm going to be pushing my colleagues in Congress to get this done."
In April, Murphy, along with U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and nine other Senate Democrats, introduced the Choose Medicare Act to give every individual who is not already eligible for Medicaid or Medicare the opportunity to enroll in Medicare as an individual and give every employer the ability to purchase Medicare for their employees.
