WASHINGTON, June 5 -- The office of Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-New Hampshire, issued the following statement after meeting with James Carroll, President Trump's nominee to lead the Office of National Drug Control Policy, otherwise known as the White House drug czar:
"The Office of National Drug Control Policy helps coordinate policy across the federal government and administers grant funding that is critical to our efforts to combat the opioid crisis in New Hampshire and across the country.
"I was encouraged by Mr. Carroll's understanding of the critical role that the office must play in bridging both the public health and law enforcement responses to the crisis, and his commitment to treating this issue as the public health epidemic that it is. I also appreciated our conversation about prioritizing federal resources for places such as New Hampshire that have been most impacted by this crisis, just as we do with other public health responses. It is critical that we have a Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy in place without delay, and I look forward to continuing to review Mr. Carroll's record as the confirmation process moves forward."
