WASHINGTON, Sept. 25 -- House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., issued the following statement to oppose the Republicans' sprawling Federal Aviation Administration extension package:
"America's patriotic young Dreamers must have swift action on the bipartisan DREAM Act. In addition, we face urgent deadlines for Community Health Centers, the State Children's Health Insurance Program and issues that relate to affordable flood insurance.
"Instead of acting on these priorities, House Republicans are advancing a sprawling FAA extension package laden with completely unrelated and inadequate items. The FAA needs long-term certainty for controllers and other dedicated FAA employees, as well as the vital NextGen modernization effort. Unfortunately, Republicans' radical and dangerous campaign to privatize the FAA has prevented action on the long-term reauthorization the FAA needs.
"Much more needs to be done to address the needs of Americans recovering from hurricanes and other natural disasters. The weak tax provisions added to this package don't treat all families recovering from natural disasters the same. All Americans, no matter where they live, deserve the same relief and resources they need to rebuild their lives.
"For these reasons, I will oppose this package under a suspension of the rules and continue to demand a vote on the bipartisan DREAM Act."
