WASHINGTON, Sept. 12 -- House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., issued the following statement after the Census Bureau released its report for 2016, finding that the percentage of Americans without health insurance coverage reached an all-time low of 8.8 percent:
"Under the Obama Administration's stewardship of the Affordable Care Act, the percentage of uninsured Americans reached an all-time low last year. Since the enactment of the Affordable Care Act, every state in America has seen its uninsured rate decline and the national uninsured rate has been cut almost in half. Now, the Trump Administration and the Republican Congress have a responsibility to build on that progress instead of erasing it.
"But from day one, the Trump Administration has worked to raise health costs on families and increase the number of uninsured Americans. With the full complicity of the Republican Congress, the Trump Administration has cynically sought to raise premiums and sabotage Americans' health care by threatening to cut off vital payments, undermining the marketplaces, and making it harder for families to enroll for 2018.
"Instead of enabling the Administration's assault on Americans' health care, Republicans must quickly join Democrats to guarantee Cost Sharing Reduction payments and ensure Americans looking for affordable coverage know all the options available."
