Rep. Jacky Rosen Statement on Speaker Ryan Bailing on Health Care Repeal Vote
Today, Congresswoman
"It's no wonder that Speaker Ryan and
"With no requirement to offer coverage for critical but expensive benefits like maternity care and drug addiction treatment, insurance companies would have been able to use taxpayer funding for nonessential procedures such as aromatherapy rather than critical life-saving treatments like chemotherapy."
"These new developments only piled onto the existing problems I had with this bill. It would have kicked 14 million people off their health insurance by 2018, including 33,500 people in my district alone. It would have imposed an age tax, allowing insurance companies to charge people over the age of 50 up to five times more than younger Americans. And finally, the bill would have done nothing to reduce costs for Americans buying health insurance, even failing to reduce our deficit significantly as promised."
"I hope my colleagues on the other side of the aisle will learn from this experience. We need an open and transparent process to tackle an issue of this magnitude. The American people deserve better, and today their voices were heard. We owe it to our constituents to fix what isn't working with the Affordable Care Act so that we can finally lower insurance costs for hard-working families."
