Bank of America Announces Customer Disaster Relief Program in Wake of Hurricane Ike, Rolls Out Mobile ATMs and Banking Centers
<p>HOUSTON, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Bank of America today announced its disaster relief program for 29 counties in Texas and 14 parishes in Louisiana that have been most heavily impacted by Hurricane Ike.</p> <p>(Logo: <a href="http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050720/CLW086LOGO-b">http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050720/CLW086LOGO-b</a> )</p> <p>The Bank of America Charitable Foundation also announced it will donate $1 million for storm relief and recovery efforts throughout the Gulf Coast. Grants of $250,000 will be awarded to the American Red Cross and the United Way of Greater Houston. An additional $500,000 will be awarded to organizations in the hardest hit communities as damage and recovery needs continue to emerge. Additionally, through the Matching Gifts Program, Bank of America associates who make contributions to approved nonprofit organizations of their choice involved in disaster relief will have their contributions, up to $10,000 a year, matched dollar-for-dollar by the Bank of America Charitable Foundation.</p> <p>The Texas counties to be included in the disaster relief program are Angelina, Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Cherokee, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Houston, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Trinity, Tyler, Walker, Waller and Washington.</p> <p>The Louisiana parishes to be included in the disaster relief program are Acadia, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Iberia, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lafourche, Plaquemines, Sabine, St. Mary, Terrebonne, Vermilion and Vernon.</p> <p>Bank of America Mobile ATM units and Mobile Banking Centers staffed by Bank of America associates are being positioned around the Houston area to assist impacted customers with their banking needs.</p> <p>"As affected individuals and businesses work to rebuild their lives after Hurricane Ike and the other storms that have impacted the Gulf Coast this year, they will need help from organizations in this community," said Walter Elcock, Texas President for Bank of America. "We want to be there for our customers and associates, as well as the larger community so we can assess the impact and begin to work toward recovery."</p> <p>Elcock said the bank will continue to monitor effects of the hurricane to determine whether the relief program needs to be expanded to other counties.</p> <p>Under the company's disaster relief program, Bank of America customers affected by Hurricane Ike in those counties may qualify to:</p> <p>-- Receive emergency credit line increases on their existing Bank of America Visa(R) card and MasterCard(R).</p> <p>-- Modify, defer or extend payments on loans, credit cards or lines of credit.</p> <p>-- Access a new home equity loan through the bank's special loan program, with no fees and preferential pricing below the current rate (available in Texas only).</p> <p>-- Purchase a new primary residence through the bank's special mortgage program and we will waive loan fees and expedite the loan process.</p> <p>-- Avoid bank early withdrawal penalties on certificates of deposit (CDs).</p> <p>Small businesses may also qualify for similar benefits on both business and personal loans.</p> <p>Customers may apply for assistance under the program through October 31, 2008, in any of our banking centers or by calling 1.800.831.5586.
