UnifiHealth Survey: 20% Of Employees Have Little Knowledge Of Health Plan
The results indicate that one in five have little to no understanding of their plan and nearly one in three are somewhat to very unhappy with their current plan. These results may not surprise small business owners who have faced excessive costs and complex health plans for many years.
"Traditional health insurance plans have become incomprehensible," said Ross Klosterman, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of UnifiHealth. "High deductible plans have left people functionally uninsured. UnifiHealth helps small businesses provide health insurance that delivers a straightforward and reliable experience for employees and also reduces out of pocket and premium costs over time."
The majority of survey respondents ranked cost and coverage information as top priorities. In fact, two-thirds of small business employees said that knowing whether or not a visit is covered by insurance and knowing out-of-pocket costs in advance of a visit or procedure are most important. Additionally, nearly seven out of ten employees of small businesses said that advanced knowledge of coverage for a visit or procedure and out-of-pocket costs would persuade them to switch from their current health insurance plan. Taken together, it is clear that people want to know what they will owe before getting care.
Another finding from the survey revealed that over sixty percent of employees either don't have a relationship with their primary care physician or are open to a better one. Large companies have been able to address this for employees by contracting directly with innovative primary care models. Certain large businesses have even built health clinics on or near their office locations to help bridge this gap in primary care. Small businesses do not have the resources or the time to implement these types of solutions.
"We have seen first-hand the frustrations small businesses face with healthcare options and an inability to access innovative solutions," said Olivia Cameron, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Unifihealth. "By lowering costs and providing employees a better healthcare experience, businesses are able to attract and retain talented people."
With UnifiHealth, small businesses can deliver a better health plan to employees that includes new and more accessible models of primary care and information on cost and coverage that is easy to understand and access. The plan helps close the significant gap that exists between large and small businesses when it comes to healthcare coverage.
