New theft charge for man prosecutors say took advantage of his elderly mother

A family member reported to police in
Another family member told police she closed several unnecessary lines of credit that Malmstrom had opened in his mother's name, according to the complaint.
Malmstrom's mother told police she had a ring that she wore every day given to her by her aunt 20 to 30 years ago that she gave to Malmstrom, although she said she did not do it purposefully, according to the complaint.
Malmstrom's mother repeatedly told police she had memory problems, according to the complaint.
"When you're my age and your memory is shot, things happen, and people take advantage of you sometimes because of this," Malmstrom's mother said in the complaint. "I really can't tell you exactly what I said because I don't remember, but I would not outright give them an expensive ring that I would want to share with the rest of my family."

Malmstrom called his mother from jail and told them some of the family members are "evil" and trying to push him out of his mother's life, according to the complaint.
Malmstrom also faces a seventh-offense driving while intoxicated charge after police say he accelerated away from a traffic stop
