"It can and will flood outside those boundaries," he said. "A lot of areas were in flood zones. There just wasn't a detailed study of the area. The recent mapping added a lot more detailed study, more data."
He said the detailed studies are more accurate today than they were in 2005, the last time
"The new mapping gives us a better prediction of potential flooding areas," Bodley said. "Previously, the mapping was based on 20- to 30-foot contours. Now they are based on 2-foot contours."
He said in 1999 a scanning procedure known as light detection and range system was implemented and continues to improve each year.
