In football, Dave was a halfback on the varsity for three years. During his senior year he broke his collarbone while playing and was sidelined the rest of the season.
As a junior Otter basketball player he led Fergus Falls with 23 points in a win over previously undefeated Wahpeton. About 3,500 people attended the game.
