NARAL Pro-Choice America today endorsed Senator Ed Markey in his re-election campaign to represent Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate at an event featuring Senator Markey, NARAL Political Director Nicole Brener-Schmitz, and NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts Executive Director Rebecca Hart Holder.
"I am honored to have the endorsement of NARAL Pro-Choice America, the nation's leading advocate for reproductive freedom," said Senator Ed Markey. "My commitment to protecting Title X funding, keeping Roe V. Wade the law of the land, and to ensuring access to reproductive health care for women will never waver. With Republicans pressing their incessant attacks on women's health, I will continue to fight in the United States Senate for the rights and opportunities that ensure women are and will always be in charge of their bodies, their health, and their futures."
"Senator Markey is a tireless defender of reproductive freedom and will stand up for the people of Massachusetts in the face of extreme attacks by Donald Trump and anti-choice politicians," said Nicole Brener-Schmitz, NARAL Pro-Choice America Political Director. "While Mitch McConnell rams Trump's judicial nominees through the Senate and with the Supreme Court poised to gut Roe v. Wade, we need Senator Markey's leadership fighting for women and families like never before. He understands that women, not politicians, must be able to make our own decisions about if, when, and how to start a family, free from political interference and judgement. NARAL is proud to endorse his re-election campaign."
"Senator Markey has fought for our fundamental freedoms in Massachusetts every step of the way and we are proud to stand with him today," said Rebecca Hart Holder, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts Executive Director. "Senator Markey understands that all women should be able to make these most personal decisions about abortion and pregnancy with the people they trust, and without intervention by politicians. We are grateful for his leadership throughout the years and are thrilled NARAL Pro-Choice America has endorsed his bid to continue representing us in the U.S. Senate and fighting for reproductive freedom for all Bay Staters."
Senator Ed Markey has represented Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate since 2013 where he has been a tireless fighter for reproductive freedom and a staunch defender of abortion rights. He consistently votes against the Trump administration's anti-choice legislation and judicial nominees. During this legislative session he voted against Senator Sasse's S. 311 bill and against the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act and has cosponsored key legislation such as the Women's Health Protection Act, the Reproductive Rights are Human Rights Act, and the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH) Woman Act. Senator Markey was a powerful voice opposing Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court and has worked to defend Title X in the face of the ongoing attack on Title X funding by the Trump Administration. Senator Markey has a 100% score from NARAL Pro-Choice America.
