Today's House passage of disaster relief legislation not only helps victims of the recent storms, but it also protects lives and communities ahead of future weather catastrophes through a set of historic reforms, the

The disaster aid bill was combined with the Disaster Recovery Reform Act, which strongly enhances a pre-disaster mitigation fund to help state and local mitigation projects, and allows the government to reward communities that have enacted mitigation policies and built to stronger construction standards with additional post-disaster aid. It also frees up funding communities can use toward building code enforcement during reconstruction.
