Massachusetts State Lottery Winners: Broken Washing Machine Leads To Millions
There were a total of 14 lucky Massachusetts State Lottery instant ticket winners in the months of April and May, one of which has a broken washing machine to thank for his winnings and one who has now won twice.
April
In April, there were three instant ticket winners with $1 million prizes.
Janine Viarella of Chelmsford celebrated her birthday with a big payout after she won a $1 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “$5,000,000 100X Cashword” instant ticket game.
Viarella, whose birthday falls on the 26 of April, selected her ticket from Bin #26, and won the $1 million prize. She chose the cash option and received a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes, the lottery said.
Her winning ticket was purchased at Pine Street Market, located at 210 Boston Road in Chelmsford. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale of the winning ticket.
Peter Mandrioli Jr. of Concord won a $1 million prize playing the lottery’s “Road to Riches” instant ticket game.
Mandrioli chose the cash option for his prize and received a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes. He plans to spend some of his winnings on home improvement projects, the lottery said.
His winning ticket was purchased at Nine Acre Farm Convenience, located at 1637 Sudbury Road in Concord. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale.
The third $1 million dollar lottery winner in April was Christopher Goss of Mattapan, who won his prize playing the lottery’s “Diamond Millions” instant ticket game.
Goss opted for a one-time payment of $1,000,000 before taxes. He purchased the winning ticket at River Street Premier Petro at 82 River Street in Mattapan. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale.

The month of May saw 11 lucky Mass. residents hit big with $1 million prize instant tickets.
A broken washing machine led to Kuldip Singh of Woburn winning a $1 million prize in the Mass. State Lottery’s “$1,000,000 Cash Wheel” instant ticket game.
After experiencing trouble with his washing machine, Singh and his daughter decided to go to the laundromat, where he exchanged a $20 bill for quarters, the lottery said. While waiting for his laundry to finish, Singh used his remaining change to purchase an instant ticket at the Richdale Convenience Store, which is located in the same building as the laundromat.
After initially winning $10 on a ticket, Singh bought two more, one of which was a million-dollar winner, the lottery said.
Singh chose the cash option and received a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes. The sale of the winning ticket took place at the Richdale store located at 58 Montvale Ave in Stoneham. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale.
In Plymouth, Gordon Wager won a $1 million prize in the Mass. State Lottery’s “Full of 500s” instant ticket game.
Wager chose the cash option for his prize and received a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes. He told the lottery he plans to purchase a car with his winnings.
His winning ticket was purchased at the Village General Store, located at 700 State Road in Manomet. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale.
The Baker Law Group Mass Lottery Trust III of Hingham claimed a $1 million prize in the Mass. State Lottery’s “The Fastest Road to $1Million” instant game.
The trust, which is represented by trustee Michael T. Baker, selected the cash option on its prize and received payment of $650,000 before taxes.
Baker purchased the winning ticket at Elie’s Auto Service located at 9 Short Street in Hingham. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for the sale of the ticket.
The Baker Law Group won another $1 million prize playing the “$10,000,000 Mega Fortune” instant game in the month of May. The trust again chose the cash option for its prize and received a payment of $650,000 before taxes.
The winning ticket was purchased at Jake’s Variety located at 93 W. Housatonic Street in Pittsfield. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for the sale of the ticket.
Luck struck again for one resident in Pittsfield. Believe it or not, but Michael Rocca won his second $1 million prize in the month of May in 2021.
Rocca also won a $1 million prize in May of 2000 playing the “$1,000,000 Draw” instant ticket game, the lottery said
He chose the cash option for his prize and received a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes. He received the final annuity payment from his first $1 million prize in May of 2020.
His winning ticket was purchased at the Kirk’s Variety and Hobby Store, located at 784 Tyler Street in Pittsfield. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale.
In Medford, Daniel Galvin joined the millionaire’s club after hitting the first $1 million prize in the Mass. State Lottery’s “Massachusetts Millionaires’ Club” instant ticket game.
He received a cash payment of $650,000 before taxes. According to the lottery, Galvin purchased a boat with previous lottery winnings and he now plans to purchase a bigger boat with his new winnings.
Galvin’s winning ticket was purchased at West Medford Spa located at 439 High Street in Medford. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for the sale of the ticket.
Erlinda Bodden of Hyde Park struck it big playing the lottery’s “$1,000,000 Cash Wheel” instant ticket game.
The lottery says the purchase of a sports drink for her son who was at lacrosse practice led to Bodden’s winnings. She told the lottery she had played the “$1,000,000 Cash Wheel” game before, and selected it again because it was fun to play.
She chose the cash option for her prize and received a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes.
Her winning ticket was purchased at Milton Food Mart located at 133 Brook Road in Milton. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for the sale of the ticket.
In New Bedford, Damon Greene won a $1 million prize playing the Mass. State Lottery’s “High Voltage Cash” instant ticket game.
Greene told the lottery he received guidance from his deceased uncle to select the ticket from bin #12, which contained the winning ticket.
He chose the cash option for his prize and received a payment of $650,000 before taxes. Greene plans to purchase a new house with his winnings, the lottery said.
His winning ticket was purchased at Cumberland Farms located at 810 Rockdale Ave. in New Bedford. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for the sale of the ticket.
Thomas Kennedy of Chicopee spent $10 to win $20,000 a Month for 10 Years by playing the “Decade of Dollars” instant ticket game.
He opted to receive a one-time payment of $1,560,000 before taxes.
Kennedy’s winning ticket was purchased at Country Trading Post located at 771 Burnett Road in Chicopee. The store will receive a $24,000 bonus for its sale of the ticket.
Rainbow Trust of Boston has claimed the winnings of a $10 million prize in the lottery’s “$10,000,000 Gold” instant game.
The trust, which is represented by trustee Greg Racki, selected the cash option for its prize and received payment of $6,500,000 before taxes.
The winning ticket was purchased at Town Variety located at 116 Central Street in Peabody. The store will receive a $50,000 bonus for its sale of the ticket.
In Greenfield, Donna Mowry won $2 million playing the lottery’s “$2,000,000 50X Cashword” instant ticket game.
Mowry chose the cash option for her prize and received a one-time payment of $1,300,000 before taxes.
Her winning ticket was purchased at The Country Corner Store located at 44 Church Street in Bernardston. The store will receive a $20,000 bonus for the sale of the ticket.
