Man charged with urinating inside Valparaiso business near where he works

Times (Munster, IN)

Oct. 05--VALPARAISO -- A 55-year-old man is accused of urinating into an insurance company located in the same Valparaiso strip mall where he works.

Richard Cusick, of Center Township, is charged with misdemeanor counts of criminal and malicious mischief, according to court records.

The operator of the State Farm Insurance branch at 901 Calumet Ave. told police he arrived at work on the morning of Sept. 19 to discover the smell of urine in his business, according to police. He traced the smell to the carpet just inside the rear door.

After the incident occurred two more times over subsequent days, the business installed a security camera, police said. The camera allegedly caught Cusick urinating on the same rear door of the insurance company on the night of Sept. 27.

The operator of the insurance company identified Cusick and said he works at the same strip mall, according to police. The footage caught by the camera was provided to police.

The insurance company reportedly spent $60 on cleaning supplies and had to dispose of the carpet/rug, police said.

Cusick, who did not immediately reply to calls for comment, had not been arrested as of Friday morning, according to the Porter County Sheriff's Department.
