Then she asked a question to the half-dozen people who came to a health care forum in the
"They might even be denied coverage," she said.
That was the crux of Lynne's message as she sought support for her bid to replace the term-limited Gov.
"I support universal (health care) coverage," she said. "It's like public education."
Lynne also touched on several other issues that are sure to be important in her gubernatorial campaign -- affordable housing, infrastructure, the environment and education. She promised to "address or outright repeal" the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights, which, among other governmental controls, forces the state to put any potential tax increases on the ballot and, she said, dramatically reduces the state's options for solving the issues she raised.
No matter what issue was raised, though, Lynne tied it back to health care. When the subject of hydraulic fracturing came up, she said
Lynne touted her experience working in the health care field; she has a Ph.D in public health and said she has experienced the health care system as a patient but also as a businesswoman buying insurance for employees and as an employee for an insurance company. It's clear this will be a tentpole issue of her campaign.
"We have to care for people who don't have the basic economic means (to care for themselves)," she said.
