Lawmakers write to Trump about floods
Their letter supports Gov. Jim Justiceâ??s recent request for disaster funding for the federal Community Development
â??The additional CDBG-DR funding requested by the governor would help homeowners rebuild safer and stronger,â? they wrote. â??It would give our small businesses an opportunity to reinvest in the communities on which they depend. It would give these communities the resources they need to reduce their exposure to flood threats and promote sustainable development.â?
The flooding occurred
In their letter, the lawmakers point out that
â??It is clear that many of the communities that experienced the worst flooding were the very same places that were already struggling to recover from the recession,â? they wrote. â??With just 5 percent of residences covered by flood insurance at the time of the event, it is clear that â?" without additional assistance â?" many of these communities simply cannot afford to rebuild.â?
In a separate email exchange, Sen.

Capito said in an email, â??As a member of the Appropriations committee, I have made it a priority to make the needs of West Virginians known, especially following the storms that our state experienced. I was proud to play a role in securing earlier funds to help individuals recover from disastrous flooding, and I will continue to work to help West Virginians rebuild their lives.â?
