Programme Coordinator Prof. Dr. Schluchtermann explained, "Since we place a great deal of emphasis on practical experience, an internship in nursing care before the start of studies is designed to provide first-hand insights into the health system and increase the patient-awareness of our aspiring health economists. In the course of the programme, they then complete an additional internship in management." The students are also always able to gain further practical experience by way of the unique mentoring programme. The mentors are leaders at various companies and institutions in the health system who serve as points of contact and are willing to assist the students. Bayreuth's Health Economics students can thus arbitrate between medicine and business. "Graduates will have an understanding of the human body and its illnesses; hospital management and public health will not be mere buzzwords for them - they will be their profession. They are trained in quality management and know what possibilities exist in e-health. In short, they have learned to act competently and responsibly in the healthcare sector," Schluchtermann said.
