HHS Secretary Wants Insurers to ‘Dust Off How They Did Business’ Before ACA
From the House Democratic Leader's Press Office
"It's really perplexing, especially from the insurance companies, because all they have to do is dust off how they did business before Obamacare." - HHS Secretary
What is truly 'perplexing' is the amnesia. No one wants to go back to before the Affordable Care Act. Before the ACA:
*There were annual and lifetime limits on care.
*Being a woman was a pre-existing condition.
*Americans with pre-existing conditions and disabilities were charged more or denied coverage.
*Families were forced to pay staggering out-of-pocket costs for fewer protections.
But thanks to the ACA, all of that has changed:
*20 million previously uninsured Americans have access to quality health coverage.
*No more annual or lifetime limits.
*Up to 129 million Americans with pre-existing conditions cannot be discriminated against because of their condition.
*Women no longer are being charged more than men for the same coverage.
*Health care costs have grown at the slowest rate in over 50 years.
If Trumpcare takes us back to the days before the Affordable Care Act, as Secretary Price says, many American families will suffer the costs.
