Fire damages Plattsburgh apartments
She said they had several cats: "Three adults and four babies. I ran in and got a couple of them."
The city resident brought two of her cats to safety and suffered a burn on her right hand, but Fletcher didn't appear concerned with the dark streaks on her palm.
"They put some sterile water on it," she said.
NO INJURIES

"Initial crews arrived within two minutes and their assessment found that everybody had exited the structure," he said.
While there were no injuries, one person was removed from the site via ambulance.
Lawliss said that individual had inhaled smoke.
It was being investigated whether or not they were a resident of the building or visiting, the chief said.
'SO QUICK'
Besides her eight cats, Fletcher said she lived in the apartment with her husband,
"Thank God our son wasn't here," she said.
Carla said Rick was cooking himself a chicken patty for lunch while she was on the phone with her sister-in-law.
"He walked into the living room for not even two minutes," she said. "I looked and there was a fire."
"We tried putting it out, but we couldn't," she said. "It was just too bad.
"It was everywhere -- so quick."
Lawliss said the exact cause of fire was under investigation, but it appeared to originate from the kitchen.
DISPLACED
Lawliss said the complex is currently uninhabitable.
"We killed power for the entire building," he said, for safety concerns.
"We're working inside," he said. "We're ripping and tearing and we're going through wiring -- we don't want anyone getting hurt electrically."
For the time being, Lawliss said all of the building's occupants will be displaced.

Most of the structure likely suffered smoke damage, the chief said.
But as for the Fletchers' unit -- Lawliss said it's pretty much a loss.
"The apartment's got some severe damage to it," he said.
Lawliss was unsure if any of the building's residents had fire insurance.

Residents on the left half of the building said their mail carrier alerted them of the smoke coming from the Fletchers' apartment on the right.
