Family coping with trauma of accident aftermath
"That's the only thing we could think about," Milligan said, referring to the family's past experiences. "I just knew I had to stay strong for everybody else."

One lung was punctured, another collapsed. After surgery, Carlock was told she was paraplegic. She'd broken her T9 vertebrae in the middle of her back.
"They thought I'd be paralyzed," she said. "I wanted to give up."
But more than a week later, she could move her toes.
"When I could move my toes again is when I thought, 'OK, I can handle this -- I've got this,'" Carlock said.

"The trauma surgeon was truly amazed that she walked out of the hospital," Milligan said.
"I was scared when I left the hospital because of the long road ahead of me," Carlock said. "I've come a long way."
The broken bones, which include the vertebrae, right arm, ribs, and sternum, have been healing. Carlock still has weakness from nerve damage in her legs but is hoping to return to work soon. She's been cleared to drive again.
"I'm feeling pretty good," she said on Wednesday.
