While medical marijuana is sometimes considered to be an alternative to traditional pharmaceutical remedies, it needs to be treated like any other medicine, with the same freedom of manufacture and widespread availability of all other prescription drugs.
Patients who would benefit from the use of medical marijuana deserve better, but that's not the only possible benefit. Marijuana-based medicines have shown promise as an alternative to opioids in alleviating of chronic pain, which has the potential to help reduce the impact of that crisis.

Nor is this problem confined to medical marijuana. It's the same for a lot of prescription medication, a complex problem whose solutions state and federal policymakers and the nation at large continue to debate.
The bottom line is, if it's legal it needs to be affordable. All of the stakeholders need to work together to figure out a way to get the medicine in the hands of those who need it.
