While the system has yet to be tested, the siren's infrastructure is in place and is ready to go.

"Very happy to see the sire put in downtown," he said. "I think we need to start thinking about the replacement siren on the south end."
The old siren is manually operated, he said, and he wanted to see it updated.
During the budget workshop,
"It's too close to us at Central (Avenue). The farther away we can get it ... it's going to give more people access to lower insurance," Jasper said.
But that is a long-term goal, he said. For the more immediate future, Jasper asked for additional budgeting to hire two more full-time firefighters.
"I need them, but if you guys choose to do that, that's great. If you don't, then I won't spend that much this year."
In response to a question from Councilor Adams, Jasper said that it would be cheaper for the budget to have his current workforce put in overtime than to hire the two additional personnel.
