Cardin said he's not concerned Trump's proposed budget will take effect.
"I'm confident that, at the end of the day, we're going to pass a budget much more in line with the [current year] budget," Cardin said. He noted that funding for things like the Chesapeake Bay Program were slated for zero funding in Trump's original budget proposal for the remainder of the 2017 fiscal year, but lawmakers reinstated the funding. Other programs like the Community Development Block Grants are also expected to be restored in the 2018 budget, Cardin said.
"We're not following the president," Cardin said.
