Car caught fire; driver suffered minor injuries
"(Her vehicle) went off the roadway, and she tried to do the best she could," Piccirillo said.
Cannon hit two unoccupied cars parked in the Agway parking lot as well as some fencing in front of the lot. She ended up in the ditch with the front of her car "fully engulfed" in flames, according to another officer, he said.
In the five minutes that it took him to drive to the scene, Piccirillo said the
"It was pretty badly burned from what I saw in the engine compartment," he said.
Despite the damage to her car, Cannon experienced only minor injuries. There were no other passengers, and no one else was injured in the accident.
Cannon blamed the accident on brake failure, but Piccirillo said there was no confirmation of that as a cause, and he couldn't say whether Cannon's insurance company would want to investigate further.
