The city is planning work beyond just repairing fire damage.
For example, the lamps lighting the pier will be new. And, the handrails, dinged up and well seasoned with fish guts from fishermen using the thick squares of wood as cutting boards, will be replaced with galvanized aluminum poles.
"We are just trying to get our pier up and running," Myrter said. "It will look very similar to what residents are accustomed to."
