The SBA also helps small businesses land federal contracts by helping them secure loans. In the
"We do have access to capital for our small businesses," Olivarez said, since sometimes small businesses need a line of credit because of the federal contract being awarded and to show financial stability.
A lending team also was in town to talk about any issues or challenges associated with small businesses and government contracting.
"It requires the entire community's support," Olivarez said.
Wright added that the SBDC does just that -- support the community by supporting small business.
Olivarez relayed that Wright and the SBDC in 2013 counseled 438 small businesses and, by doing that, created 124 jobs. She said businesses that receive counseling tend to stay in business longer.
"Seventy-nine new businesses were created. That takes a lot of hours, a lot of time," Olivarez said.
"It provides business classes to retired veterans," Austin said.
There's also the Emerging Leaders program, and one
"We'd love to have folks from this area participate ... They (the Emerging Leaders) interact together and share best practices," Olivarez said.
