Owner: “We will survive this”
"We will survive this,"
Geesaman called the fire "a real shock" and said that, although what transpired is tragic, "the most important thing is the fact that there were no injuries and they (firefighters) saved the other buildings beside it."
The fire, which began about
"It looked like chaos because they were all running around back and forth, and they had towers going up, but everybody knew what they were doing," Okum said. "They eventually got everything under control.
"People who didn't show up and people who weren't here, the main question was how did the fire start," he added. "A lot of people seemed surprised that this could happen, that this did happen here in downtown."
"The back of the office is completely caved in," he said. "The front of the office looks like it has mostly water and smoke damage."
McCune Lumber will have to replace "tens of thousands of dollars" worth of inventory as well as construct another warehouse, Geesaman said. Insurance will cover some of the damage, but not all of it.
"It's going to affect us for a short period of time because we lost all of the inventory -- miscellaneous building products," he said. "As far as rebuilding goes, the goal is to rebuild when everything gets settled."
The majority of inventory lost to the fire should be replaced in about a week, according to Geesaman.
"I think the community is grateful that the damage didn't spread any further, and I'm sure they're with the Geesaman family," said
