Are the established local political committees out of touch with what voters want? It would appear so, at least in
Is this just an anomaly or is
Instead of allowing the committee to force-feed them its recommended candidate, the voters spoke loud and clear about wanting a choice on the ballot.

While party committees work hard to choose who they like best, I believe that all registered voters should be the ones to make the final decision to elect our government officials.
Let's do our own research and learn about the people running for office in the
On TV and in the newspaper, I have been following the news of the recent shootings and killings at Fort Hood, as well as the mass shootings that have occured not only in schools but on city streets. It is about time politicians pass stricter gun control laws.
The NRA defends the rights of gun owners, but the victims of crime caused by these guns have rights, too. Does the NRA care more about the rights of gun owners than about shooting victims?
Background checks should be mandated on the purchase of all guns whether it be in gun shops, at sporting goods stores or at gun shows. Streets and malls in this country should be safe.
With what we see on the news, it looks more like Dodge City. I hope the politicians in D.C. will stop the insanity of gun violence.

Years ago, I was told it made financial sense for me to go to college. So, I did that. Then, I was told it made even more financial sense for me to go to graduate school. So, I did that. All the while, I turned down all kinds of other jobs.

Many sexually active teens suffer from depression when they realize they have been used for the self-gratification of another. This depression often leads to eating disorders and drug-and- alcohol abuse. When a teen becomes pregnant, abortion and single parenthood greatly impact their future.
On the other hand, teens with self-respect and respect for others are better able to focus on their education and future.

I have cards, letters and other gifts from the students whose lives I have touched. My proposal is very simple: Let's ask our students and their families, whom we have built relationships with, whether they would like to lose their support staff.
There are countless testimonials I could talk about, but I have one that I would like to highlight in particular.
A student came to me and indicated that she was going to cut herself again, as she had a prior history of this behavior. I had a private conversation with her to calm her down and assess her further needs.
By law, I had to report this to an administrator. I called offices, and no one was available. So, I left the library and contacted a principal. I ran to him because this individual needed immediate help.
The student was able to come to me because I had established a rapport where she trusted me enough to seek assistance. I have reason to believe that I saved the student's life.
Many SDL support staff would agree with my examples. We work hard, and are understaffed because prior cuts have affected our abilities to provide adequate time to complete tasks. Yet, we still make time to listen to and help our students.
In these tough economic times, it is very hard to maintain even keeping a roof over your head. I make a monthly income equivalent to a
This is no easy task working with our students who face poverty, lack food and parenting, etc. It takes a special person to deal with these situations.
Don't get me wrong, we have students who are doing well. They love to share their successes, from obtaining an International Baccalaureate diploma or getting acceptance letters from colleges.
I have no regrets for having chosen to work with our children. It is just disheartening to be the target of cost-saving measures.
