Cecconi said PennDOT has agreed to examine conditions at the intersection of Main and Elm streets, where a traffic light recently was replaced by four-way stop signs as the result of previous traffic studies.
Although the signs have been posted to hang higher above the street than normal, Cecconi said he's heard complaints that motorists have had to slam on their brakes at the last second because they nearly missed noticing them. Cecconi noted he's experienced the same problem.
While southbound motorists have complained that trees help to obscure the view of the stop sign, Cecconi expressed concern about the sign facing the opposite direction being blocked when trucks unload at the adjacent Dollar General store.
Cecconi said the borough and PennDOT are "trying to work it out. We're seeing if we can come up with a solution to make the intersection safer."
