Heart Walk encourages women to know facts

"When we think about heart disease, we usually associate it with men and women just consider breast cancer and that's just wrong," Dillard said.

Although they recognize that women can have atypical symptoms for heart disease, many still do not recognize the classic symptoms such as chest pain syndrome, Banna said.
According to the
Banna said women sometimes do not recognize the symptoms as a heart attack because they are typical symptoms.
Banna said most women frequently cite obesity as a major cause of heart disease. Even though obesity is a risk factor, women need to be aware of all the major risk factors like diabetes, smoking, hypertension, high cholesterol and lack of physical activity. But it's activities like the Heart Walk where people learn about the risk factors.
Dillard adds that
"It's important for everyone to start thinking about their wellness and it's a good thing for women to learn about their health," she said. "We like to take a positive approach."
Dillard said challenging other businesses and people to walk is the beginning of having a good exercise routine especially in a group.
"We have employees that come from different walks of life so it's better to do things like this in a group," she said. "It builds camaraderie and teamwork and being healthy together."
Banna also encourages people to participate in activities such as the Heart Walk, be knowledgeable of the risk factors, be aware that no one is immune to the disease and focus on leading a healthy lifestyle.
"Anything we can do to promote wellness that can prevent illness or any other risk factors for our folks is good," Dillard said.
