The three-story home was completely destroyed. The fire broke out just after
"Flames were coming out the door near the kitchen," he said. It's unclear what sparked the blaze, he said.
It took firefighters more than an hour to put out the flames because a slate roof hampered their ability to vent the structure and attack the fire from above, Rearick said.
Robinson was asleep on the second floor when the fire started. Her husband,
"It's a good thing Chad was here because it takes her a good 10 minutes to get down the stairs," he said.
Kirchartz, who has been staying with the Robinson's for about three weeks, said he was outside fixing a fence and went down to the garage to get some tools.
When he came back up, he heard the dog barking and then the dog burst through the door.
He said he followed it back inside and that's when he realized the house was on fire.
"If I was at the garage for a minute longer, there would have been nothing I could have done," Kirchartz said.
He said he tried to go back inside to rescue two other dogs and two cats, but was forced back by heat and smoke.
He and his wife plan to stay with friends or relatives. The
