PRI Targets Decubitus Ulcer Claims in First-of-its-Kind Seminar
Roslyn, N.Y., April 12, 2013 — Physicians’ Reciprocal Insurers (PRI) held a first of its kind seminar for PRI’s client doctors, nurses, risk managers, claims personnel and other institutional professionals to focus upon lawsuits in which Decubitus Ulcers are the subject of claims against medical professionals. Decubitus Ulcers or Pressure Ulcers are among the most common subject of “malpractice” lawsuits.
PRI, which maintains state of the art professional risk management programs, hosted the conference on April 4th to view trends in such cases and to explore the prevention of lawsuits as part of PRI’s Best Practices educational series for medical professionals and attorneys in the avoidance and defense of claims. More than 100 attended the gathering.
According to Mr. Anthony Bonomo, CEO of the Company, while identifying the problem and presenting strategies, the conference offered the opportunity for an exchange of information for all those in attendance: “We are intent on doing our part to improve quality of care for patients by focusing specifically on the prevention of decubitus ulcers. By organizing a multi-disciplinary team, we can share the knowledge that we’ve accumulated over the years. This is part of our ongoing risk management education and advocacy curriculum for physicians and institutions to limit their exposure to claims and to vigorously defend spurious claims.”
According to Ms. Jeanne Braun, PRI’s Executive Vice President, Hospitals and Special Programs, the program is the first of its kind and is one of several such programs planned by PRI. The following presentations were included: Clinical Perspective presented by Dr. Vibhu Narang, MD, FACEP, FACP, CEO, NarviHealth; Claims Perspective presented by Fran Zozzaro, Director of claims at PRI; Legal Perspective presented by Patrick G. Toner, Esq., Law Offices of Santangelo, Benvenuto & Slattery.
