When people started ripping out the walls in those homes to repair damage from the floods, he said, they found more problems beneath them such as rotten wood and termite damage.
Many of the residences that need repair are less than 1,000 square feet. The homeowners are raising their grandchildren and great grandchildren in them because they can't afford to buy or rent anywhere else, Ripple said.
