Firefighters found "heavy smoke and fire conditions" when they arrived, the chief said.
While nothing is official right now, authorities are leaning toward an electrical panel as the possible source of the fire, Bennett said.
"There was significant damage to the kitchen area," he said, "with smoke damage throughout the building." The chief characterized the overall damage as "severe but not catastrophic."
There were no injuries with the blaze, Bennett said. Owens said no one was in the restaurant at the time.
It took about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control, Bennett said.
Owens said that while he wants to get the restaurant open again "just as soon as possible," he doesn't have any firm timetable yet.
"We've already contacted the insurance people; we've contacted contractors," he said.
